Insecurity: We cannot give up on Nigeria — Oluremi Tinubu
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome insecurity through government efforts, international support and security collaboration, urging citizens to remain hopeful and prayerful.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said Nigeria’s security challenges will be overcome through sustained federal efforts, support from security agencies and international collaboration.
Speaking on Saturday during her first official state visit to Ekiti State, where she met with the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Government House, Ado Ekiti, the First Lady said Nigeria is too big to be intimidated by non-state actors.
Senator Tinubu, in a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, said President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to curb insecurity, describing the situation as distressing while expressing optimism about ongoing interventions.
She noted that countries such as the United States and France are supporting Nigeria’s efforts to combat insecurity, adding that some details of ongoing security operations remain classified.
“The US, for example, is helping. America is helping, France too is helping and some other developed countries. Nigeria is too great to be intimidated,” she said.
The First Lady expressed confidence that the country’s security challenges would soon be resolved and urged Nigerians, particularly women, to remain prayerful and hopeful.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Oba Adu Adejimi Alagbado, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, commended President Bola Tinubu for initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare. He also called for urgent action to address kidnapping and other security concerns affecting Ekiti State and other parts of the country.
During the visit, Senator Tinubu distributed a ₦100 million Business Recapitalisation Grant to 2,000 women petty traders in Ekiti State, with each beneficiary receiving ₦50,000.
She said the intervention was designed to support small businesses, strengthen household incomes and stimulate economic activities.
The First Lady also highlighted several interventions under the Renewed Hope Initiative, including scholarships, educational support programmes and empowerment schemes. She commissioned a TETFund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre at Ekiti State University and announced ₦200 million in cash rewards for the institution’s two best graduating students.
