INEC Urges Nigerians to Complete Voter Registration Before July 26 Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged eligible Nigerians to complete their voter registration before the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise closes on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The commission made the appeal in a public notice published on its official X account on Saturday, reminding prospective voters that the registration window would not be extended beyond the announced deadline.

According to INEC, the ongoing exercise provides an opportunity for eligible Nigerians who have not previously registered, as well as registered voters seeking to update or transfer their voter information, to be included in the national register of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Your future won’t wait. Neither should you. The Continuous Voter Registration exercise ends Sunday, 26 July 2026,” the commission stated.

INEC advised intending voters to complete the registration process as early as possible to avoid the last-minute rush that often characterises the final days of the exercise.

The electoral commission explained that eligible citizens can complete the registration entirely online through its dedicated CVR portal or visit any designated registration centre for physical assistance.

It added that those who require support during the process can also visit any of its state offices, local government area offices or other approved registration centres across the country.

“You can complete your voter registration online from start to finish via cvr.inecnigeria.org. If you need assistance, visit any INEC State Office, LGA Office, or designated registration centre to complete your registration in person,” the commission said.

INEC further disclosed that all registration centres would continue to operate every day, including weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until the exercise officially ends.

The commission stressed that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise is a critical aspect of preparations for the 2027 elections, ensuring that eligible citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote.

It also encouraged Nigerians to verify their registration details and promptly make any necessary corrections before the deadline expires.

With the registration exercise entering its final phase, INEC appealed to all eligible citizens yet to register or update their voter records to take advantage of the remaining time, warning that only those successfully captured in the voters’ register will be eligible to participate in future elections.
