INEC Dismisses Reports of Revised 2027 Campaign Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it had revised the campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections, describing the information as false. The commission urged Nigerians to disregard the viral graphic and rely only on its official communication channels for electoral updates.

The misleading graphic alleged that INEC had extended the campaign period by one day, stating that campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections would end on January 15, 2027, instead of January 14. It also falsely claimed that governorship and state House of Assembly campaigns would close on February 5 rather than February 4, while retaining the election dates already announced by the commission.

Reacting to the reports, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, said the commission had not issued any revised campaign timetable. He stressed that the viral graphic did not originate from INEC and reaffirmed that all campaign timelines remain as contained in the revised timetable and schedule of activities released on February 26, 2026.

Oketola advised the media, political parties and members of the public to verify all electoral information through INEC's official platforms, warning that misinformation and disinformation often increase as elections approach. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid sharing unverified election-related content.

The clarification comes as political activities continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with INEC reiterating its commitment to providing timely and accurate information to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
