INEC Chairman Assures Nigerians Every Vote Will Count in 2027

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians that every valid vote will count in the 2027 general elections, reaffirming the commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent polls. He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to former Head of State and Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), in Minna, Niger State.

Amupitan described Abdulsalami as a key figure in Nigeria's democratic journey, noting that the commission regards him as a strong pillar of support. He said INEC remains focused on strengthening the country's electoral process and ensuring that Nigerians have confidence in the outcome of future elections.

The INEC chairman also highlighted the importance of collaboration with the National Peace Committee and other stakeholders in promoting peaceful elections and deepening democratic values. He reiterated that the commission is working to improve its operations and deliver an electoral process that reflects the will of the people.

Responding, Abdulsalami commended INEC's efforts and pledged the continued support of the National Peace Committee in promoting credible and peaceful elections. He urged the commission to remain impartial and steadfast in safeguarding Nigeria's democracy ahead of the 2027 polls.
