I’m Still Awaiting FG’s Approval to Dislodge Criminals from S’West Forests — Igboho
Yoruba nation activist Sunday Igboho says his proposed security outfit is awaiting federal approval to begin operations aimed at tackling criminal activity in South-West forests, while pledging cooperation with existing security agencies and state regulations.
Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), has said he is still awaiting approval from the Federal Government to formally launch his security initiative, the “Iru Ekun Security Network,” aimed at flushing out criminal elements from forests across the South-West.
Igboho made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State, adding that all required documentation for registration and approval had already been submitted to the relevant federal authorities.
He said the proposed outfit was designed to support efforts to tackle kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal groups allegedly operating in rural and forest areas across the region.
According to him, the security initiative is ready to work in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to restore peace and stability in affected communities.
Igboho also expressed readiness to comply with a recent executive order issued by the Oyo State Government regulating private security operations.
The order, signed by Governor Seyi Makinde, requires all vigilante groups, associations, and private security outfits operating in the state to register and operate under a clear legal framework to ensure proper coordination and accountability.
Igboho commended the move, describing it as a step toward strengthening security governance and ensuring that all groups operate within the rule of law.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s security architecture and address insecurity across regions.
According to him, his outfit remains committed to working within legal boundaries while supporting government agencies in tackling insecurity, particularly in rural areas where farming communities are most affected.
“We are ready to collaborate with all security agencies to flush out criminals threatening the peace of our people,” he said.
Igboho added that security and peace remain essential for agricultural productivity and rural development, stressing that insecurity continues to undermine livelihoods in many communities across the South-West.
