Hoodlums Attack Soludo’s Chief of Staff Convoy, Two Policemen Killed
Two policemen were killed after hoodlums attacked the convoy of Anambra Governor’s Chief of Staff along Amansea–Ufuma Road, prompting police to launch a 48-hour manhunt for the attackers.
Two policemen have been feared killed following an attack by suspected hoodlums on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, along the Amansea–Ufuma Road.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night, with Dr. Nwankwo escaping the attack unhurt. Security sources said the convoy was ambushed while travelling through the area, leading to a violent confrontation.
Although full details remain unclear, initial reports indicate that the attackers opened fire on the convoy before fleeing the scene. Two police officers attached to the security detail were said to have been killed during the incident.
The Anambra State Police Command has since launched a manhunt for the suspects, with the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to all police formations and tactical units in the state to apprehend those responsible.
Orutugu gave the directive during an emergency security meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters, where senior officers were briefed on the urgency of the situation.
He described the attack as a direct challenge to state authority and vowed that it would not go unpunished.
“I want you to fish out the attackers and the killers of our officers. I demand immediate action to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. I want results,” he said.
The police commissioner stressed that criminal elements would no longer be allowed to operate freely under the cover of darkness to carry out violent attacks in the state.
He also expressed concern over emerging security threats, noting that intelligence reports suggest some attackers now disguise themselves in police and military uniforms to evade detection.
Orutugu urged members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly when travelling through isolated or vulnerable routes such as the Amansea–Ufuma axis, which he described as a known hotspot for ambushes.
“The Amansea–Ufuma Road is a particularly isolated route. Commuters and members of the public should exercise caution,” he warned.
He assured residents that the command has already launched intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and restoring calm.
According to him, the police remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Anambra State, adding that the attackers would be brought to justice within the 48-hour window if intelligence efforts succeed.
