Gunmen Kill Former Rivers LG Chief Security Officer

Gunmen have shot dead Letam Kine, a former Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Bori, the headquarters of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State. The attack occurred on Sunday evening along Polytechnic Road in Bori, with residents suspecting that cultists were responsible for the killing.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants opened fire on Kine before fleeing into nearby bushes, triggering panic in the area as residents, business owners and passers-by ran for safety. Social and commercial activities were temporarily disrupted, while students of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, located in Bori, were left frightened by the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Khana Local Government Chairman, Dr Thomas Bariere, condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence. He expressed concern that it came only weeks after another fatal attack in a nearby community, saying the repeated incidents suggest the activities of armed criminal gangs seeking to destabilise the area. He called on security agencies to intensify operations and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Blessing Agabe stating that Kine's body had been deposited in a morgue while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the attackers.
