France Reclaim World No. 1 Ranking After Dominant World Cup Run
France returned to the top of FIFA’s live world rankings after an unbeaten World Cup campaign, overtaking Argentina with five consecutive victories in the tournament.
France have reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the live FIFA Men’s World Rankings after an outstanding unbeaten run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup lifted Les Bleus above Argentina and Spain.
Didier Deschamps’ side climbed to the summit with 1,925.86 ranking points following impressive victories over Senegal, Iraq, Norway, Sweden and Paraguay during the tournament.
The latest update sees Argentina slip to second place with 1,913.71 points, while Spain remain third on 1,892.28 points despite their strong World Cup campaign.
England occupy fourth position with 1,850.97 points as they continue their quest for World Cup glory, while Brazil are fifth on 1,804.92 points after their Round of 16 elimination.
Morocco reached a historic milestone by climbing to sixth place with 1,803.99 points following their remarkable run to the quarter-finals, making them the highest-ranked African nation.
Portugal sit seventh with 1,787.85 points, followed by the Netherlands in eighth on 1,775.54 points. Belgium occupy ninth place with 1,756.51 points, while Mexico complete the top 10 with 1,754.30 points.
France’s return to the summit has been powered by a series of high-quality victories, with FIFA’s ranking formula rewarding wins against strong opposition.
Their group-stage victory over Norway earned the team 12.44 ranking points, while the Round of 32 triumph against Sweden added another 9.40 points, helping them leapfrog Argentina.
Les Bleus have also impressed with their attacking displays, led by captain Kylian Mbappé, who has been one of the tournament’s standout performers.
Midfielder Michael Olise has equally played a key role in France’s success, emerging as the competition’s leading assist provider and contributing significantly to the team’s attacking dominance.
France’s rise to the top of the rankings reflects their consistency throughout the tournament and reinforces their status as one of the favourites to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy as they prepare for the semi-finals.
