BREAKING: Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom
Kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo State have regained freedom after days in captivity, with authorities yet to disclose details surrounding their release.
Pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after days in captivity, bringing relief to their families and the wider public.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post shared on his verified X account.
Announcing the release, Onanuga wrote, “Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors.”
The victims were kidnapped in the recent attack that sparked widespread concern across the country and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
It also remained unclear whether any ransom was paid or if security operations contributed to securing their freedom.
Officials are yet to provide details on the condition of the pupils and teachers or whether they have been reunited with their families.
The abduction had generated nationwide condemnation, with many Nigerians urging the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and prevent similar attacks on educational institutions.
The incident also reignited concerns over the safety of schools, particularly in rural communities where cases of kidnapping for ransom have continued to pose significant security challenges.
Security agencies have not issued an official statement on the operation leading to the release or whether any suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction.
The Federal Government has repeatedly pledged to strengthen security around schools and improve intelligence gathering to curb kidnappings and other violent crimes targeting students and teachers.
The release of the victims is expected to bring relief to parents, school authorities and residents of the affected community, who had anxiously awaited positive news since the abduction.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances of the release and any ongoing investigations into the incident in the coming days.
