FG Vows to Root Out Terrorism as Abuja Mass Trial Continues
FG says it is committed to rooting out terrorism as Abuja mass trial of suspected terrorists continues before Federal High Court.
The Federal Government on Monday reaffirmed its determination to eliminate terrorism and related criminal activities across Nigeria, as the ongoing mass trial of suspected terrorists resumed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, made the declaration while speaking with journalists shortly after leading a team of government lawyers to the court for the proceedings.
Fagbemi said the administration remains fully committed to ensuring that terrorism is decisively confronted and eradicated, stressing that the government is not treating national security threats with levity.
According to him, the mass trial reflects the seriousness with which the government is pursuing justice against individuals accused of terrorism-related offences, as well as its broader strategy to strengthen national security and uphold the rule of law.
He noted that the cases before the court are part of ongoing efforts by the state to hold suspects accountable and dismantle networks linked to violent extremism across the country.
The proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja form part of a larger coordinated prosecution effort involving multiple defendants accused of participating in terrorism activities and other related offences.
Government officials say the trial is intended to send a strong message of deterrence, reinforcing the position that acts of terrorism will be met with firm legal consequences.
Fagbemi emphasized that the current administration is committed to strengthening collaboration among security agencies, prosecutors, and the judiciary to ensure that terrorism cases are efficiently handled and successfully prosecuted.
He added that the government will continue to provide the necessary legal and institutional support required to sustain ongoing counter-terrorism operations nationwide.
Security analysts have described the mass trial as one of the most significant in recent years, given its scale and the number of suspects involved, as authorities intensify efforts to address insecurity challenges across different regions.
The Federal Government maintains that sustained prosecution, combined with military and intelligence operations, remains central to its strategy for restoring peace and stability in affected parts of the country.
Officials also reaffirmed that due process and fair hearing will be observed throughout the judicial process, in line with constitutional provisions.
