Fake Agency Scandal: Reps Prepare Final Report Amid Fresh Controversy

The House of Representatives' ad hoc committee investigating the activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) is set to conclude its assignment, with its final report expected to be presented to the House in the coming weeks. The development comes amid renewed controversy over the composition and leadership of the investigative panel.

The committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, has come under fresh criticism as some lawmakers and stakeholders questioned his appointment to lead the probe. Critics argued that the credibility of the investigation could be affected, while calling for greater transparency before the report is laid before the House.

The probe was launched following revelations that the PFIPC, described by the Presidency as a non-existent agency, was allocated more than ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 budget. The committee has since held several investigative sessions, questioning top government officials over how the agency secured official approvals and budgetary allocations despite lacking legal backing.

Despite the controversy, the committee is expected to complete its work and submit recommendations aimed at identifying those responsible for the alleged irregularities and preventing similar occurrences in future budget processes. Lawmakers have maintained that those found culpable will face appropriate sanctions in line with the law.

The outcome of the report is expected to shape the next phase of investigations into one of the country's biggest budget scandals this year, with anti-corruption agencies already carrying out parallel inquiries into the activities of the alleged fake agency.
