Akinteye Babatunde Afeez has been elected as the new National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following the association’s national convention held in Abuja.
He emerged victorious after securing a clear majority of votes from delegates across tertiary institutions in the country, defeating other contenders in the tightly contested election.
Akinteye, who previously served as NANS Senate President, succeeds the outgoing leadership with a pledge to strengthen unity among Nigerian students and prioritise welfare-focused policies.
In his acceptance remarks, he expressed appreciation to delegates for their support and promised to run an inclusive administration that reflects the interests of students nationwide.
The new president also outlined his commitment to improving engagement between student leaders, government institutions, and other stakeholders in addressing challenges affecting education in Nigeria.
The convention was described as peaceful, with student representatives commending the transparent conduct of the electoral process.
