Ekiti Election: INEC Begins Upload of Polling Unit Results on IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the upload of polling unit results from the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing voters, observers and political parties with access to election outcomes in real time.

The results began appearing on the portal at about 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, following concerns raised by stakeholders over the delay in making polling unit results publicly available online.

The IReV platform, introduced by INEC to enhance transparency and public confidence in the electoral process, allows citizens to view scanned copies of polling unit result sheets as they are uploaded from across the state.

The commencement of the upload marks a significant stage in the election process, as parties and observers continue to monitor the collation of votes from the various polling units.

One of the early results uploaded to the portal showed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, defeating his closest rivals at Polling Unit 4, Ward 2, in Ekiti South West Local Government Area.

According to the result displayed on the portal, Oyebanji secured 140 votes at the polling unit, while the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ambassador Dare Bejide, polled 37 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate recorded two votes at the same polling unit.

Election observers and political stakeholders had earlier expressed concern about the pace of uploads on the portal, stressing the importance of timely publication of results to ensure transparency and reduce speculation.

INEC officials had assured voters and political parties that the process would continue as results from polling units were transmitted and verified.

The Ekiti governorship election has attracted significant attention across the country, with major political parties contesting for control of the state.

Voting took place across the 16 local government areas of the state under the supervision of INEC and security agencies, with observers monitoring compliance with electoral guidelines.

As collation progresses, more polling unit results are expected to appear on the IReV portal, enabling members of the public to independently track outcomes and compare them with figures announced at collation centres.

The final outcome of the election will be determined after the completion of collation and official declaration of results by INEC.
