Doctors Express Optimism Over Strike Suspension After Meeting With FG

Medical doctors under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have expressed optimism that the planned nationwide strike may be averted following fresh discussions with the Federal Government over their outstanding demands.

The optimism followed a meeting between leaders of the association and government representatives, where both parties reviewed issues relating to doctors' welfare, outstanding allowances, working conditions and other concerns affecting healthcare delivery across the country.

Speaking after the meeting, NMA officials said the discussions were productive and reflected the government's willingness to address the grievances raised by medical practitioners. They noted that although no final agreement had been reached, significant progress was made towards finding a lasting solution.

The association disclosed that it would brief its members on the outcome of the engagement before taking a final decision on the proposed industrial action. It, however, urged the Federal Government to ensure that the commitments made during the meeting are implemented promptly to prevent further disruption of health services.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to continued dialogue with the doctors, expressing confidence that ongoing negotiations would lead to a mutually acceptable resolution. Both sides agreed to sustain engagements in the interest of the nation's healthcare system.
