Delta Orders Arrest of Suspects Over Attack on Governor's Aide

The Delta State Government has directed security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the violent attack on Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple, a protocol aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The assault occurred during the Delta Central APC stakeholders' meeting held at the Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, and was widely circulated on social media.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, the government condemned the attack, describing the assault on the governor's aide as unacceptable. It stressed that no individual has the right to resort to violence regardless of political differences or affiliations.

According to the statement, Governor Oborevwori has instructed security agencies to track down everyone involved in the incident and ensure they face prosecution. Reports also indicated that the state's Commissioner for Works (Urban/Highways), Reuben Izeze, was attacked during the same disturbance, raising fresh concerns over political violence in the state.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, law and order, insisting that acts of violence would not be tolerated. It urged political stakeholders and supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and resolve disagreements through lawful means rather than resorting to intimidation or attacks.

The incident has renewed concerns about violence during political gatherings in Delta State, with authorities pledging to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and to prevent similar occurrences in future political engagements.
