Customs to Begin Yearly Hiring, Open 2026 Recruitment Soon

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to introduce an annual recruitment system, ending the long gaps that previously existed between recruitment exercises. Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi disclosed that the Service's 2026 recruitment exercise will commence later this year and is expected to be completed within a single calendar year.

Speaking while unveiling the final list of successful candidates from the 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, Adeniyi said recruitment would no longer be conducted occasionally but would become a predictable yearly process. He explained that the new policy is aimed at improving manpower planning and ensuring the Service promptly replaces retiring personnel.

According to the Customs boss, the systems, screening architecture and verification processes developed during the just-concluded recruitment exercise have now been fully established, making future recruitment faster and more efficient. He expressed confidence that the 2026 exercise would run smoothly from advertisement to the publication of the final list.

Adeniyi also confirmed that 3,852 successful applicants were recruited in the 2024/2025 exercise. Of the total, 1,275 were employed into the Superintendent Cadre, 367 into the Inspectorate Cadre, while 2,210 joined the Customs Assistant Cadre.

He noted that the annual recruitment policy would provide greater certainty for job seekers while strengthening the Service's operational capacity through a more consistent and transparent employment process.
