'Customs Cares’ CSR Initiative Wins Commonwealth Gold Award

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has won a Commonwealth Gold Award in recognition of its 'Customs Cares' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative, a programme designed to improve education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and community development across Nigeria. The award highlights the Service's growing commitment to supporting national development beyond its core mandate of revenue generation and border security.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the recognition as a testament to the Service's efforts to positively impact communities through people-centred interventions. He said the 'Customs Cares' initiative was established to bridge social gaps by investing in projects that directly improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly in underserved communities.

According to the Service, the initiative has delivered classroom renovations, educational materials, medical outreach programmes, clean water projects and environmental campaigns in several parts of the country. Adeniyi noted that these interventions reflect the Customs Service's belief that effective public institutions should contribute to sustainable community development alongside their statutory responsibilities.

The Commonwealth Gold Award recognises organisations that demonstrate excellence in corporate social responsibility, innovation and community impact across member states. The NCS said the honour reinforces its resolve to expand the initiative and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver more impactful projects nationwide.

The Customs boss dedicated the award to officers, partners and communities who have contributed to the success of the programme. He reaffirmed the Service's commitment to strengthening public trust through transparency, accountability and initiatives that promote inclusive growth and national development.
