Confusion Erupts in Ogun ADC as Two Politicians Claim Governorship Ticket
Fresh crisis rocks ADC in Ogun State as rival factions announce different winners of the governorship primary, deepening internal divisions and raising fears of legal battles ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fresh controversy has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State after two different politicians emerged claiming victory in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
The dramatic development has thrown the party into confusion, with rival factions announcing separate candidates as the authentic winner of the governorship ticket.
One faction declared that the primary election was properly conducted and produced its preferred candidate through what it described as a transparent democratic process. However, another faction rejected the outcome entirely and announced a different candidate, insisting that its own exercise represented the legitimate primary recognized by party stakeholders.
The conflicting declarations immediately triggered tension among party supporters and political observers in Ogun State, raising concerns over a possible legal battle and internal crisis within the ADC ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Sources within the party accused rival camps of manipulation, imposition, and disregard for party guidelines, while loyalists of both candidates continued to insist that their respective aspirants remain the valid flagbearer of the party.
The confusion comes at a critical period when political parties across Nigeria are intensifying preparations for the next general elections, with governorship primaries already generating disputes, defections, and factional clashes in several states.
As of the time of filing this report, the national leadership of the ADC had yet to officially clarify which candidate would be recognized as the party’s authentic governorship flagbearer in Ogun State.
Political analysts warn that if the dispute is not quickly resolved, it could weaken the party’s chances and further deepen divisions within the opposition camp ahead of the 2027 polls.
