Chef Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Effort Behind Hilda Baci's Guinness World Record
Chef Gbolabo Adebakin, also known as Captain Gibbs, has disclosed that Hilda Baci's Guinness World Record was made possible through meticulous planning, logistics and the efforts of a dedicated support team. He said the success of the cook-a-thon demonstrated the importance of teamwork, preparation and strict adherence to Guinness World Records requirements.
Celebrity chef Gbolabo Adebakin, popularly known as Captain Gibbs, has revealed the extensive planning and coordination that went into helping Nigerian chef Hilda Baci achieve her Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. He said the success of the historic cook-a-thon was the result of weeks of preparation and the dedication of a large support team working behind the scenes.
According to Adebakin, preparations went far beyond the cooking itself, involving menu planning, ingredient sourcing, logistics, staff welfare and strict compliance with Guinness World Records guidelines. He explained that while Hilda Baci spent more than four days cooking, the support team worked continuously for about a week to ensure the attempt ran smoothly.
The chef noted that many members of the team sacrificed sleep and worked tirelessly to manage operations throughout the record attempt. He emphasised that breaking a Guinness World Record requires careful organisation, teamwork and attention to detail, rather than relying solely on the determination of the record holder.
Adebakin added that the experience highlighted the importance of collaboration in delivering large-scale projects, stressing that every successful record attempt depends on people working together behind the scenes. He said the achievement has continued to inspire many Nigerians to pursue ambitious goals while recognising the value of thorough preparation and strong support systems.
Hilda Baci's 2023 cook-a-thon became a defining moment for Nigeria, earning global recognition and inspiring a wave of Guinness World Records attempts across the country. She has since received further honours, including being named a Guinness World Records Icon in recognition of her lasting impact on record-breaking culture.
