CAS Sets October 8 Hearing for Senegal's 2025 AFCON Final Appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has fixed October 8, 2026, as the hearing date for Senegal's appeal against the controversial outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The hearing will take place at the court's headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, involving the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The appeal challenges CAF's decision to strip Senegal of the AFCON title after ruling that the Teranga Lions forfeited the final by temporarily walking off the pitch in protest during the match. CAF subsequently awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory, despite Senegal originally winning the match 1-0 after extra time on the field. Senegal is asking CAS to overturn that decision and officially recognise them as the 2025 African champions.

CAS said the case will proceed under its normal timetable because all parties did not agree to an expedited hearing. The arbitration body also confirmed that the proceedings will be held behind closed doors, adding that no verdict will be delivered on the hearing day, as the panel will begin deliberations only after listening to arguments from all parties.

The sports tribunal further cautioned against misinformation surrounding the case, stressing that only updates released through its official communication channels should be regarded as authoritative. The outcome of the appeal is expected to determine whether Morocco retains the 2025 AFCON title or Senegal is reinstated as continental champion.
