BREAKING: Ex-Police Commissioner Owoseni Withdraws from Oyo Accord Gov Primary
Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni has withdrawn from the Accord Party governorship primary in Oyo State, alleging manipulation, infiltration of party structures, and growing violence within the party.
A former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, has withdrawn from the governorship primary of the Accord Party in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Owoseni, who also served as Security Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde, announced his withdrawal in a statement released on Tuesday through his X handle.
The former police commissioner said recent developments within the party had made it difficult for his governorship ambition to continue under the Accord Party platform.
According to him, there were orchestrated efforts within the party aimed at frustrating his political aspiration and destabilising the internal process.
He alleged that the party structure at the state level had been infiltrated and manipulated by political interests determined to maintain control of government in the state.
Owoseni also claimed that violence and thuggery were increasingly being introduced into party activities to create confusion and stall the governorship process.
“Within the past twelve hours, ongoing developments in the party point to orchestrated plans to ensure that our gubernatorial aspiration via the platform of the Accord Party is not achieved,” he stated.
The former police commissioner added that the situation compelled him to rethink his political association with the party and eventually step aside.
Before addressing his political decision, Owoseni sympathised with victims of a recent attack in Ogbomoso and families affected by the insecurity crisis in the state.
He said the worsening security situation should ordinarily dominate public discussions, noting that many residents were living in fear following recent violent incidents.
Despite withdrawing from the governorship race under the Accord Party, Owoseni assured supporters that his commitment to the development and progress of Oyo State remained unchanged.
He thanked his supporters for standing by him since the beginning of the political movement and urged them to remain hopeful despite the latest development.
The withdrawal is expected to reshape political calculations within the Accord Party in Oyo State as parties continue preparations ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
