BCDA Crisis: Tinubu Should Resign, Atiku Reacts as Wike’s Ally Refuses to Vacate Office After Removal
Atiku Abubakar criticised the BCDA leadership crisis, saying it reflects governance failure, and urged President Bola Tinubu to clarify the agency’s leadership or withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the leadership crisis at the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), saying it reflects a loss of control within President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Atiku’s reaction followed reports that Dakorinama Alabo George, who was removed as Director-General of the BCDA, has continued to function in the office despite President Tinubu’s appointment of former House of Representatives member Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as his replacement.
President Tinubu had announced the leadership change through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. However, weeks after the announcement, George has reportedly remained in office and continued to carry out official duties.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the situation as another example of administrative confusion under the current administration.
He questioned how a president could publicly appoint a new head of a federal agency while the person said to have been replaced continued to occupy the position, attend official functions and remain listed as the agency’s chief executive on its official platform.
According to Atiku, the development damages Nigeria’s image and raises concerns about the government’s ability to manage public institutions effectively.
He argued that such contradictions undermine investor confidence and weaken the country’s credibility before the international community.
The former vice president called on the Presidency to immediately clarify the legal status of the BCDA leadership and resolve the uncertainty surrounding the agency.
Atiku further urged President Tinubu to reconsider his political future, saying the administration had recorded repeated governance failures, policy inconsistencies and economic challenges.
He maintained that rather than focusing on the 2027 presidential election, the President should concentrate on addressing the nation’s pressing problems or withdraw from the race if he believes he has fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations.
