Bayelsa PDP Approves ₦20m Palace Project in Jonathan's Hometown

The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the construction of a ₦20 million palace for the traditional ruler of Elebele Community in Ogbia Local Government Area, the hometown of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The project is part of the party's efforts to strengthen its support base ahead of the 2028 governorship election.

The announcement was made by the Bayelsa PDP Chairman, George Turnah, during a reception organised for former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Gabriel Claudius, popularly known as "One Million Man," who recently returned to the PDP with his supporters. Turnah said the decision followed a visit by party leaders, who found the community's royal palace in a poor condition.

According to him, the party has already approved the funds and directed that construction should begin immediately rather than waiting until election campaigns commence. He described the intervention as a demonstration of the PDP's commitment to communities that have remained loyal to the party over the years.

Turnah also highlighted the party's contributions to Elebele, noting that the PDP had facilitated the appointment and election of several indigenes into key political offices. He assured residents that more development initiatives would be introduced as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next governorship poll.

Speaking at the event, PDP leaders urged members to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation, expressing confidence that the party would reclaim Government House in 2028. Claudius also pledged to work with his supporters to strengthen the party and contribute to its success in future elections.
