Bandits Kill 20 in Fresh Attack on Kebbi Community
At least 20 people were killed in a suspected bandit attack on a Kebbi community, prompting government assurances of increased security deployment and renewed efforts to combat insecurity.
At least 20 people have been killed following a fresh attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area, raising fresh concerns over the security situation in parts of Kebbi State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred a few days ago, left several residents dead and threw the community into mourning.
Reacting to the incident, the Kebbi State Government expressed sadness over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims and residents affected by the attack.
A government delegation led by Deputy Governor Umar Tafida visited the community on Saturday to sympathise with residents and assess the situation.
During the visit, Tafida assured the people that the state government remained committed to addressing insecurity and protecting lives and property across the state.
He disclosed that additional security personnel and operational resources would be deployed to the area to strengthen ongoing operations, restore normalcy and prevent future attacks.
“We share in your grief and remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kebbi State,” the deputy governor said.
The Chairman of Arewa Local Government Area, Sani Tela, and the member representing Arewa Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Nuradeen Kangiwa, informed the delegation that the attack resulted in significant casualties and destruction within the community.
They commended Governor Nasir Idris for his administration’s efforts to tackle insecurity and support affected communities.
Traditional leaders also expressed appreciation for the government’s response. Among them were the Dikkon Kabi, Kabiru Sulaiman, who represented the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, and the District Head of Bui, Abubakar Dan-Malam.
The traditional rulers appealed for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the main highway, arguing that improved access would enhance security response, boost economic activities and improve the welfare of residents.
The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges confronting rural communities despite ongoing efforts to curb banditry across the region.
