Bandits Abduct Zamfara LG Chairman, Kill Four Security Personnel

Armed bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Nura Abdullahi, after attacking his residence in the early hours of Saturday. The assault left four security personnel dead, while several members of the chairman's family were also taken away by the attackers.

According to the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the gunmen overpowered the chairman's security detail, comprising police officers and local vigilantes, before carrying out the abduction. During the exchange of gunfire, four security operatives were killed while attempting to repel the attackers.

The military disclosed that troops responding to the incident successfully rescued five members of the chairman's family and have launched an intensive operation to locate and rescue Abdullahi. Security forces said efforts are ongoing to track the kidnappers and bring them to justice.

The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria, particularly Zamfara State, where armed bandit groups continue to carry out kidnappings and deadly assaults despite ongoing military operations. Authorities have assured residents that additional security measures have been deployed as the search for the abducted council chairman continues.
