Badejo-Okusanya: My Victory Belongs to Every Lawyer Who Believes in Stronger NBA

President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has described her victory in the association’s national election as a collective achievement for lawyers committed to building a stronger, more inclusive and responsive legal profession.

In a statement issued after emerging victorious in the NBA presidential election on Sunday, Badejo-Okusanya expressed gratitude to members of the association for entrusting her with the responsibility of leading the legal body, describing the mandate as both an honour and a call to greater service.

“I am truly humbled by the confidence that members of the Nigerian Bar Association have reposed in me by electing me to serve as your President,” she said.

According to her, the outcome of the election reflects the confidence of members in a shared vision for a more vibrant association that serves the interests of every lawyer.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every member who believed that our Association can be stronger, more inclusive, more responsive, and better positioned to serve the interests of all lawyers,” she added.

Badejo-Okusanya recalled travelling across the country during the campaign period, engaging with lawyers in every state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

She said the interactions gave her a clearer understanding of the expectations, concerns and aspirations of members, which would guide her administration.

“Over the past months, I had the privilege of travelling across our nation, engaging with colleagues in every state of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. I listened to your hopes, your concerns, your aspirations, and your ideas. Those conversations shaped this campaign, and they will continue to guide my leadership,” she stated.

The president-elect also urged members to move beyond the election and unite in advancing the legal profession.

She described the NBA as one family bound by a common commitment to justice, the rule of law and professional excellence.

Badejo-Okusanya congratulated her fellow contestants for participating in the election and said she looked forward to working with them to strengthen the association.

She also appreciated members of her campaign team, volunteers, supporters, mentors, friends and family for their unwavering support throughout the election.

Pledging to lead with integrity, fairness and accountability, she assured members that her administration would prioritise the welfare and professional development of lawyers.

“Together, we will build an Association where every lawyer has the opportunity to earn better, live better, and practise better. The work begins now,” she said.
