Army Foils Kidnap Attempts, Rescues Federal Polytechnic Rector in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts and rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, during separate security operations in Zamfara State. The successful missions followed swift responses to distress calls reporting terrorist attacks in communities within Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

According to the military, the first operation took place in the early hours of Monday when armed terrorists stormed the rector's residence, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct Dr Yusuf and members of his family. Troops responded promptly, engaged the attackers in a gun battle and forced them to flee, rescuing the rector and his family unharmed.

In a separate operation later the same day, soldiers on night patrol responded to another distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were attempting to kidnap residents. Despite difficult terrain, the troops pursued the fleeing gunmen, engaged them and successfully foiled the abduction attempt, rescuing several civilians in the process.

The military commended the courage and professionalism of the troops involved in the operations, describing the rescues as another significant achievement in the ongoing campaign against terrorism and banditry in the North-West. It reaffirmed Operation FANSAN YAMMA's commitment to restoring peace and improving security across Zamfara State and neighbouring communities.

The latest operations form part of intensified military efforts to combat kidnapping and armed attacks in the region, with security agencies continuing intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and dismantling criminal networks.
