Army, DSS Uncover Suspected IPOB/ESN Arms Cache Hidden in Enugu Piggery
Army troops and DSS operatives uncovered a suspected IPOB/ESN arms cache hidden inside a piggery in Enugu, recovering weapons, ammunition and explosives during an intelligence-led security operation.
Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have uncovered a suspected arms cache linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 82 Division Garrison following intelligence obtained from suspects previously arrested in connection with activities of the separatist groups.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, said the operation took place on June 9, 2026, in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area.
According to Ayeni, security operatives conducted a precision follow-up raid based on intelligence gathered during ongoing investigations. During the operation, troops discovered a concealed arms storage facility hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.
A thorough search of the location led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition allegedly linked to the activities of IPOB and ESN.
Items recovered from the hideout included General Purpose Machine Guns, AK-47 rifles, an RPG-7 launcher tube, hand grenades, a tear-gas gun with cartridges, several AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Ayeni described the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal and terrorist networks operating within the South-East region.
He noted that the success of the raid highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the growing collaboration between security agencies in addressing threats to national security.
According to him, the operation demonstrates the commitment of Operation UDO KA to sustaining offensive actions against groups accused of undermining peace and stability in the region.
The Army spokesperson urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace and public safety.
He added that the recovered weapons, ammunition and arrested suspects had been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Security authorities reaffirmed their determination to protect lives and property while preserving national sovereignty through sustained operations against criminal elements across the South-East
