Appeal Court Judgment Clears ADC for 2027 Polls, Says Atiku's Camp

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the Court of Appeal's decision nullifying a Federal High Court judgment that sought the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. It described the ruling as a major victory for democracy and said it had removed every legal obstacle that could have affected the ADC's participation in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the Atiku Media Office, the opposition camp said the appellate court's judgment, together with an earlier Federal High Court ruling affirming the Senator David Mark-led National Executive Committee of the ADC, had resolved all pending legal disputes over the party's legal status and leadership.

According to the statement, there is no longer any court case challenging the party's leadership, clearing the way for the ADC to fully prepare for the next general election. The media office maintained that the judgment strengthens the party's position as it continues to build its coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Atiku camp also commended the Court of Appeal for overturning what it described as an erroneous decision by the lower court. It argued that the ruling reinforces Nigeria's democratic principles by protecting the constitutional rights of political parties to participate freely in the country's electoral process.

The latest development is expected to boost the confidence of the ADC and its supporters as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with the opposition coalition continuing efforts to position itself as a major challenger to the ruling party.
