APC Primary in Kwara Faces Scrutiny Over Alleged Vote Discrepancies

A Federal High Court in Ilorin is hearing a suit challenging the APC House of Representatives primary for Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency after court documents allegedly showed Mohammed Mamman scored more votes than the total number of accredited voters in one local government area. The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency in Kwara State has come under judicial scrutiny after court documents allegedly revealed significant discrepancies in the result sheets used to defend the nomination of the party's candidate. The documents are part of a pre-election suit pending before the Federal High Court in Ilorin.

The suit was filed by one of the aspirants, Hussein Afolabi, who is challenging the nomination of Mohammed Mamman as the APC's candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election. According to the court filings, a certified result sheet submitted by the APC recorded Mamman as polling 21,676 votes in Patigi Local Government Area, despite indicating that the total number of accredited voters in the area was 21,315. The plaintiff argued that the figures were mathematically impossible and cast doubt on the credibility of the primary election results.

Afolabi further alleged that when the votes allocated to all aspirants on the same Patigi result sheet were added together, they totalled 27,408 votes, exceeding the recorded number of voters by more than 6,000 votes. He also claimed similar inconsistencies appeared in the result sheets for Edu and Moro local government areas, arguing that the discrepancies undermined the integrity of the primary election.

The plaintiff contended that no official result of the primary election was publicly declared before the APC forwarded Mohammed Mamman's name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate. He asked the court to nullify the nomination, insisting that the documents relied upon by the party contained material inconsistencies and computational errors.

The APC has denied the allegations, maintaining in its counter-affidavit that the primary election was validly conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act and the party's constitution. The matter remains before the Federal High Court for determination.
