The Anambra State Government has inaugurated its 2027 Budget Committee, charging members to produce a people-centred appropriation that reflects transparency, fiscal discipline and evidence-based project selection. The inauguration was conducted by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chukwukadibia Okoye, at the ministry's Inter-Agency Board Room in Awka.
Okoye urged committee members to approach their assignment with dedication and integrity, stressing that the state budget remains the primary instrument for translating government policies into tangible development. He directed the committee to prioritise projects based on their developmental impact, avoid duplication and inflated costs, and ensure the completion of ongoing projects before introducing new ones.
The commissioner also emphasised the need for realistic revenue projections, accurate costing, stronger collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and improved internally generated revenue while attracting donor support. He noted that the 2027 budget should address critical challenges facing the state, including erosion control, while advancing Governor Chukwuma Soludo's development agenda.
During the event, the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Chinyere Nwabachili, presented the 2027 budget calendar, outlining the process from community consultations through legislative approval. The ministry pledged full support to the committee, expressing confidence that the exercise would produce a credible budget that meets the needs and aspirations of Anambra residents.
