Analyst Commends IGP Disu for Significant Improvement in Election Security
A security analyst has praised Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu for enhancing election security and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A security analyst has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for what he described as significant improvements in election security management and the overall professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force during recent electoral exercises.
The analyst, in an interview, highlighted the visible reduction in election-related violence and the enhanced coordination between police operatives and other security agencies under Disu’s leadership.
He noted that the current IGP’s strategic deployment of personnel, improved intelligence gathering, and emphasis on community engagement had contributed to more peaceful polls in several states compared to previous election cycles.
The analyst particularly praised the police leadership for prioritising the training and retraining of officers assigned to election duties, as well as the introduction of technology-driven monitoring systems that helped in the timely deployment of personnel to flashpoints.
He said these measures had helped restore public confidence in the police as a neutral and professional institution during elections, a development he described as critical to deepening Nigeria’s democracy.
The commendation comes as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders urging security agencies to build on the gains recorded in recent off-cycle elections.
IGP Olatunji Disu has consistently maintained that the police will remain impartial and professional in the discharge of their duties, particularly during the electoral process.
The Nigeria Police Force has in recent times intensified its election security training programmes and collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society groups, and international election observers to ensure credible polls.
Political observers say sustained improvement in election security will be critical to the credibility of the 2027 general elections, which are expected to be one of the most competitive in the country’s recent history.
