Alia, PDP, Aondoakaa Trade Blame Over Fresh Benue Killings

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party's 2027 governorship candidate, Michael Aondoakaa, have exchanged accusations following the renewed wave of killings in the state that claimed at least 15 lives in Otukpo Local Government Area. The fresh violence has intensified political tensions as the parties disagree over responsibility for tackling the worsening security situation.

In separate statements, the Benue PDP and Aondoakaa accused Governor Alia's administration of failing to provide effective leadership and adequate security for residents. The opposition criticised the governor's response to the recurring attacks, arguing that the continued bloodshed reflected shortcomings in the state's approach to addressing insecurity.

Responding to the allegations, Governor Alia accused the opposition of exploiting the tragedy for political advantage instead of supporting efforts to restore peace. Through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor said the killings required unity, compassion and constructive engagement rather than partisan attacks and political point-scoring.

Alia maintained that his administration has consistently supported security agencies through logistics, intelligence sharing, personnel motivation and collaboration with local vigilante groups. He insisted that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property despite the persistent security challenges confronting parts of the state.

The exchange comes as residents continue to demand stronger security measures to end the recurring attacks across Benue. The latest killings have renewed concerns over the humanitarian and security situation in the state, with stakeholders calling for coordinated action to protect vulnerable communities.
