Africa CDC Warns 10 African Countries Could Be Affected By Ebola Spread
Africa CDC has warned that 10 countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, are at risk amid a spreading Ebola outbreak in Central and East Africa, urging stronger surveillance, border control, and regional cooperation to contain the virus.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that 10 African countries are at risk as the current Ebola outbreak continues to spread across parts of Central and East Africa. Health officials say growing cross-border movement and regional insecurity are increasing concerns about wider transmission.
According to Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya, countries considered vulnerable include Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia.
The outbreak, linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, has already been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The World Health Organization recently classified the situation as a public health emergency of international concern due to fears of further regional spread.
Health experts say the absence of an approved vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain has made containment efforts more difficult. Authorities are therefore focusing on surveillance, contact tracing, border monitoring, and public awareness campaigns to reduce transmission risks.
Africa CDC has also called for stronger regional cooperation and faster international support to help contain the outbreak before it spreads further across the continent.
