Adeleke Declares Tuesday Work-Free Day for PVC Collection in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, a work-free day for public servants across the state to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. The directive is aimed at encouraging greater participation in the electoral process and ensuring eligible voters are prepared to cast their ballots.

The announcement, conveyed through a statement by the governor's spokesperson and a circular issued by the Head of Service, applies to all categories of public servants, including local government employees and workers in state-owned tertiary institutions. The government said the decision was taken to allow workers fulfil their civic responsibility without disrupting their official duties.

However, the state government clarified that the work-free directive does not extend to personnel providing essential services. Medical workers, security personnel and other critical service providers have been advised to make internal arrangements to ensure that public services remain uninterrupted during the exercise.

Governor Adeleke also urged residents, particularly public servants and workers in the informal sector who are yet to obtain their PVCs, to take advantage of the opportunity. He stressed that the governorship election is significant to the future of the state and encouraged eligible voters not to delay collecting their voter cards.

The declaration comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission continues PVC distribution across Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with political parties intensifying preparations for the poll.
