The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 57 suspects in a renewed crackdown targeting Shilla gang activities, drug abuse, public nuisance and other criminal offences across the state.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, as part of efforts to strengthen security and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
Police spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed in a statement that the suspects had been charged to court following their arrest.
According to him, the arrests were made during a coordinated operation conducted around identified criminal hideouts and black spots in Jimeta and the Yola metropolitan areas.
“The operation, which was carried out by Divisional Police Officers under the supervision of their Area Commanders, yielded positive results with the arrest of 57 suspects for offences bordering on Shilla-related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons and involvement with prohibited substances,” the statement read.
Nguroje explained that police operatives recovered several dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances from the suspects during the operation.
He added that all recovered items had been properly documented and would be presented as exhibits during prosecution proceedings.
The police spokesperson stated that the suspects had been arraigned before the court in line with legal procedures, while further investigations were ongoing to establish their involvement in other criminal activities.
He said the command was committed to ensuring that individuals and groups involved in violent crimes, gang-related activities and social disorder were brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, courage and dedication to maintaining law and order in the state.
Hassan assured residents that the command would continue to intensify operations aimed at eliminating criminal gangs and creating a safer environment for citizens.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain alert and support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting crimes.
The command urged residents to continue cooperating with the police as efforts continue to improve security across Adamawa State.
