AAUA Students Give Aiyedatiwa 72-Hour Ultimatum Over ASUU Strike

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), have given the Ondo State Government a 72-hour ultimatum to resolve the ongoing strike by the institution's branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), warning that failure to act could lead to peaceful mass action.

In a statement issued by the Students' Union leadership, the students said the industrial action, which has entered its second week, has brought academic activities to a standstill, leaving thousands of students stranded and disrupting the university's academic calendar. They lamented that the prolonged shutdown has created uncertainty while placing emotional, financial and psychological pressure on students.

The union urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and relevant stakeholders to immediately engage with the university's ASUU leadership to bring the dispute to an end. According to the students, they have exercised patience throughout the crisis but would be compelled to take lawful and peaceful action if no concrete steps are taken within the ultimatum period.

While stressing that their position should not be viewed as a threat, the students described it as a sincere appeal driven by the hardship caused by the strike. They insisted that restoring academic activities without further delay is in the best interest of both the students and the institution.

Responding to the development, the university management appealed for calm, assuring students that the Ondo State Government is already working to resolve the industrial dispute. The management expressed confidence that the strike would be brought to an end soon and advised students to remain patient while discussions continue.
