21-Year-Old Escapee Exposes Secret Confinement and Brutal Torture Over Refusal to Join "Yahoo" Scam Academy
A 21-year-old Nigerian youth has shared a terrifying account of being human trafficked, held hostage, and brutally tortured by a cybercrime syndicate after refusing to participate in internet fraud.
A harrowing first-hand account has emerged detailing the extreme and violent measures deployed by cybercrime syndicates to forcefully recruit young Nigerians. A 21-year-old survivor, who successfully escaped an illegal confinement facility, has revealed how he was held hostage, severely starved, and subjected to systemic physical torture after adamantly refusing to work as an internet fraudster, locally referred to as a "Yahoo Boy."
The young man's ordeal began under the guise of a legitimate employment offer when he was recruited from his home community under the impression that he was being hired for a conventional digital marketing and administrative role.
However, upon arrival at a heavily fortified residential compound, the operational reality transformed into a living nightmare. The supervisors immediately seized his personal belongings, locked him inside a crowded room with several other young men, and informed him that his actual job would involve catfishing, identity theft, and corporate wire fraud.
When the 21-year-old made it clear that his moral and religious principles prevented him from participating in cybercrime, the syndicate's enforcers initiated a brutal regime of physical coercion to break his resolve.
"They told me point-blank that nobody leaves the compound empty-handed, and if I wasn't ready to hustle online, I would pay with my body," the escapee recounted during an emotional interview detailing his experience. "When I refused to open fake social media profiles to scam foreigners, they tied my hands, beat me with heavy cables, and denied me food and water for days. They wanted to torture me until I had no choice but to submit to their training."
For weeks, the victim endured regular beatings and psychological trauma alongside other captives who were undergoing forced orientation into advanced internet fraud tactics.
The breakthrough came during a brief lapse in the compound's security protocol late one evening. Seizing an opportunity when a guard left an entry gate momentarily unlocked while distracted by a phone call, the bruised and malnourished youth managed to scale a perimeter fence under the cover of darkness, running through unfamiliar streets until he reached safety.
Following his successful escape, the survivor has been receiving medical attention for deep lacerations and severe physical exhaustion. Human rights advocates and local security experts have expressed deep alarm over the case, noting that cybercrime syndicates are increasingly transitioning from voluntary recruitment to human trafficking and forced labor to sustain their illegal networks.
The case has been formally reported to the police and anti-trafficking agencies, who are currently leveraging intelligence provided by the escapee to track down the location of the secret training base, liberate the remaining captives, and bring the syndicate leaders to justice.
