Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has emerged as the Accord Party’s presidential candidate after securing 423,902 affirmative votes in nationwide affirmation primaries ahead of the 2027 election.
Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Accord Party following the conclusion of the party’s affirmation primaries conducted across several states ahead of the 2027 general election.
Olawepo-Hashim secured a total of 423,902 affirmative votes in the exercise, which formally ratified his candidature and provided party members the opportunity to endorse his presidential ambition.
Although he was the sole aspirant, the party said the affirmation process was designed to demonstrate internal democracy and gauge support for his candidacy across participating states.
The results were announced after votes from the participating states were collated by party officials.
Returning Officer for Kebbi State, Mallam Yahaya Mohammed Usman, and Returning Officer for Jigawa State, Mohammed Bashar Abdulahi, confirmed the outcome on behalf of their respective states.
According to the results released by the party, Jigawa State recorded the highest number of affirmative votes with 198,200, followed by Kano State with 124,101 votes.
Nasarawa State returned 47,309 votes, while Kebbi State contributed 46,852 votes. Kwara State recorded 3,348 votes, and Lagos State returned 4,548 affirmative votes, bringing the total to 423,902.
Speaking on the conduct of the exercise, Usman described the process as peaceful, transparent and credible.
“The exercise was peaceful, transparent and reflective of the confidence members have in Olawepo-Hashim’s leadership and vision for the country,” he said.
Abdulahi noted that the outcome signalled the party’s readiness to begin nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“The outcome is a strong signal of the party’s readiness to mobilise nationwide ahead of the general election,” he stated.
He added that the Accord Party intends to position itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking new political options.
According to him, Olawepo-Hashim possesses the qualities needed to foster national unity and bridge political, regional and religious divides.
“He is a bridge builder capable of healing national divisions across North and South and a unifier across religious lines. His emergence represents a potential platform for reconciliation and national cohesion in a politically fragmented country,” Abdulahi said.
The party is expected to intensify consultations and mobilisation efforts as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
