Watch It, God May Call You Like Abacha Before Election — Dino

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against what he described as overconfidence ahead of the 2027 presidential election, drawing a comparison with the late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Melaye made the remarks on Wednesday in a post shared on his verified X account, where he referenced Abacha’s political circumstances before his death in 1998.

The former lawmaker, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), argued that political calculations alone do not determine the outcome of leadership ambitions, insisting that divine intervention remains a decisive factor in the affairs of nations.

According to him, Abacha had secured the endorsement of all the registered political parties at the time and appeared certain to transition from military ruler to civilian president before his sudden death altered the country’s political direction.

Melaye said the development serves as a reminder that human plans can be overturned unexpectedly.

“There is a God factor in the affairs of men. Tinubu does not understand this,” he wrote.

He added that despite enjoying widespread political support, Abacha never realised his ambition because, according to him, God intervened.

“There was no contest, he was already cruising to become a civilian president. God picked His phone and called Abacha,” Melaye stated.

Continuing his warning, the former senator said no individual can resist divine authority, regardless of political influence or power.

“When God calls you, there is no network failure. That God has not gone on omugo, Tinubu watch it,” he added.

Melaye’s comments come amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying criticism of the Tinubu administration while positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

The statement is the latest in a series of remarks by opposition figures questioning the President’s political future and governance record.

Although the Presidency has not officially responded to Melaye’s comments, the exchange reflects the growing political tension as parties and influential politicians begin to shape narratives ahead of the next presidential contest.

Political observers expect campaign activities and public exchanges between members of the ruling party and opposition figures to intensify as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
