Volta Lake fishermen get modern cold-chain facilities under GH¢45m project

A GH¢45 million government project has delivered modern cold-chain storage and processing facilities to 12 fishing communities along the Volta Lake.

Twelve fishing communities along the Volta Lake are benefiting from a GH¢45 million government-funded project that has constructed modern cold-chain storage, ice production and fish processing facilities, reducing post-harvest losses.

Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson said post-harvest losses in the lake fisheries sector had historically averaged 30 per cent due to lack of refrigeration.

"Fish that used to spoil before reaching market can now travel to Accra and beyond in excellent condition," the Minister said.
