A United States-based Nigerian lawyer, Owolabi Salis, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to provide answers over what he described as the existence of a "ghost government", the reported $4.5 billion oil-for-debt arrangement, the continued absence of a Christian Vice President in the country's leadership structure.

Salis alleged that several key decisions affecting the country were being taken without sufficient public accountability, urging the President to address growing concerns surrounding the reported oil-backed debt agreement, other governance issues. He argued that Nigerians deserve greater transparency on matters relating to public finance, national policy.

The lawyer also questioned the administration's approach to religious balancing in government, saying the absence of a Christian Vice President raises concerns about inclusiveness, equitable representation. He maintained that the country's diversity should be reflected in leadership appointments to strengthen national unity.

Salis further called on the Federal Government to disclose full details of the reported $4.5 billion oil-for-debt deal, insisting Nigerians have a right to know the terms, implications of any agreement involving the nation's natural resources. He urged relevant institutions to ensure transparency in all transactions connected to public assets.

The lawyer appealed to the President to address the issues directly in order to restore public confidence, insisting that openness, accountability remain essential to democratic governance. The Presidency had not issued an official response to the remarks as of the time of filing this report.
