University Non-Academic Staff Issue Stern Ultimatum to President Tinubu Over Broken 2009 Agreement Timelines
SSANU has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government over prolonged delays in finalizing the 2009 agreement renegotiations, threatening imminent industrial action across public universities if President Tinubu does not intervene.
Public universities across Nigeria are facing the grim prospect of another disruptive shutdown after the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) formally warned that its members have become highly restive over prolonged delays in finalizing the renegotiation of the foundational 2009 agreement. Speaking at the 79th Zonal Executive Council meeting at Olabisi Onabanjo University, SSANU National Vice President Dr. Abdussobour Salaam cautioned that while the union has deliberately exhausted peaceful dialogue channels, its patience with federal negotiators is rapidly running out.
The union noted that while the renegotiation committee led by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed is right on the cusp of concluding a new deal, third-party political actors are actively attempting to truncate the process at the finish line. Union leaders are pleading directly with President Bola Tinubu to fast-track executive approval of the harmonized welfare packages to prevent widespread industrial unrest across public campuses amid crushing macro-economic inflation.
