Osun Poll: Omisore, APC Leaders Meet Bisi Akande Ahead of Governorship Election
Bisi Akande hosts Osun APC elders, including Iyiola Omisore, as party leaders review campaign strategy ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande has met with leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress in the state to review the party’s preparations for Saturday’s governorship election.
The meeting was held on Saturday at Akande’s country home in Ila Orangun, with former Deputy National Chairman of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and other party leaders in attendance.
A photograph showing Akande and Omisore walking hand-in-hand after the meeting went viral on Sunday, attracting attention ahead of the election.
Participants at the meeting said members of the Osun APC Elders’ Caucus reviewed the party’s campaign and discussed measures to strengthen its chances at the poll.
According to the participants, the meeting focused largely on assessing the campaign so far and identifying areas requiring improvement.
Director-General of the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Ajibola Famurewa, who attended the meeting, confirmed that the photograph was taken after the elders’ caucus meeting.
Famurewa said Akande and Omisore had lunch together before Akande escorted the former deputy national chairman to his vehicle.
He said discussions centred on strategies for securing victory for the APC in the election.
“Yesterday, we assessed the whole campaign and highlighted where we think we have issues. He (Omisore) provided solutions, and everyone rubbed minds together, and we arrived at a reasonable conclusion,” Famurewa said.
He also dismissed suggestions that Akande and Omisore held a separate private meeting after the main gathering, saying the discussions involved the wider group and focused on the party’s electoral prospects.
The meeting comes as political parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the poll, including the ruling Accord Party, which is fielding incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the APC.
