UK Court Jails Nigerian Man for Sexually Assaulting Woman

A United Kingdom court has sentenced a Nigerian man, Obinwa Obichukwu, to two years' imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman twice at Euston railway station in London. The conviction followed an investigation by the British Transport Police, which described the attacks as traumatic for the victim and commended her courage in supporting the prosecution.

According to investigators, the 45-year-old first approached the woman at the station, grabbed her hand and repeatedly declared his affection for her despite being rejected. He later followed the victim and carried out a second sexual assault before she managed to alert security personnel, leading to his arrest shortly afterwards.

During the trial, prosecutors presented CCTV footage and witness evidence linking Obichukwu to the offences. The court found him guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of false imprisonment, sentencing him to two years in prison. He was also placed on the UK Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and made subject to a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

British Transport Police praised the victim for reporting the incident and cooperating with investigators throughout the case. Officers urged anyone who experiences or witnesses sexual offences on the transport network to report them promptly, stressing that such crimes are treated seriously and thoroughly investigated.

The case has renewed attention to passenger safety on Britain's rail network, with authorities reiterating their commitment to tackling sexual offences through increased surveillance, public reporting and stronger enforcement measures.
