Troops Uncover Grave, Recover Remains of Slain Imo Community Leader

Troops of the Nigerian Army have uncovered a shallow grave and recovered the remains of a community leader who was allegedly killed by suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State. The discovery was made during a military operation targeting criminal hideouts in the state as security forces intensified efforts to curb violent activities in the South-East.

According to the military, the operation followed credible intelligence that led troops to the burial site, where the victim's remains were exhumed. The slain community leader was reportedly abducted and murdered by the armed group after refusing to cooperate with their activities in the area.

Military authorities said the recovery forms part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal camps and restoring peace across Imo and neighbouring states. They noted that several suspects have been identified, while efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the killing.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements threatening the safety of residents in the South-East.
