Troops Kill Two Suspected Terrorists in Kebbi State Operation
Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised two suspected terrorists during a coordinated military operation in Kebbi State, dealing a fresh blow to criminal elements operating in the area.
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed two suspected terrorists during a tactical operation in Kebbi State, in a renewed offensive against armed groups terrorising communities in the North-West region.
The military operation, which was carried out based on credible intelligence, resulted in the elimination of the two suspects and the disruption of an alleged plot to attack residents and travellers in the area.
According to military sources, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a firefight after intercepting their movement in one of the volatile axes of the state, leading to the neutralisation of the two suspects.
The military said the swift response and professionalism of the troops prevented the suspects from carrying out further attacks on innocent citizens and disrupted the operational plans of the criminal group they were affiliated with.
The Army also recovered weapons, ammunition, and other operational items from the slain suspects, with the items reportedly evacuated to a secure location for further analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
The military authorities noted that the latest operation was part of the wider counter-terrorism and counter-banditry efforts being undertaken by the Nigerian Armed Forces across various parts of the country.
They reaffirmed the commitment of the military to ridding the country of terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent criminality, particularly in vulnerable communities in the North-West, North-East, and North-Central regions.
The Army commended the troops involved in the operation for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to duty, urging them to sustain the tempo until the entire country is rid of armed criminal elements.
It also acknowledged the cooperation of residents and local communities in providing useful information that aided the success of the operation, stressing that such collaboration remained vital in the ongoing security operations.
The military assured residents of Kebbi State and other vulnerable areas that operations would continue across identified hotspots and corridors of insecurity to ensure the safety of citizens and the restoration of normalcy in affected communities.
It further warned terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups to lay down their arms and surrender or face decisive military action, stressing that the armed forces would not relent until the country is fully secured.
The Army encouraged residents to continue to support security operations by promptly reporting suspicious movements, persons, or activities to the nearest military formation or other security agencies.
The latest development comes amid sustained military operations in various parts of the country aimed at confronting the rising tide of insecurity, including coordinated offensives against terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers.
The Federal Government has, in recent times, intensified its commitment to overhauling the country's security architecture, with plans to recruit additional military personnel, deploy more advanced equipment, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against insecurity.
Stakeholders have continued to commend the efforts of the military in confronting terrorism and other security threats, while urging the authorities to address the underlying socio-economic factors that fuel criminality, including poverty, unemployment, and weak governance in affected areas.
The killing of the two suspected terrorists in Kebbi State is expected to provide some relief to residents of affected communities and serve as a strong warning to other criminal elements operating in the area.
