President Bola Tinubu has charged members of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election and defeat forces he said were seeking to take Nigeria backwards.

Tinubu gave the charge following the constitution of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the January 2027 election, with the President serving as chairman.

Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were named vice chairmen. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary.

The President urged members of the council to effectively communicate the achievements of his administration as campaigning begins.

He said the APC had delivered on its campaign promises and placed the country on the path of economic progress.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet, let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu said.

He charged the campaign team to soundly defeat all forces seeking to take the country backwards.

The campaign council includes several senior APC figures, government officials and political leaders assigned responsibilities across mobilisation, election planning, legal affairs, administration, new media and communications.

The development has already drawn criticism from opposition parties. The African Democratic Congress described the council as an attempt to divert attention from debates over the administration’s economic policies, while the Allied Peoples’ Movement questioned the credibility of some members of the team.
