Tinubu Appoints NAMDAS DG Of BCDA, Names Obahiagbon, Umeoji NDPHC Executive Directors
President Tinubu has appointed Namdas as DG of the BCDA, while naming Obahiagbon and Umeoji as Executive Directors of the NDPHC, in a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s health innovation and public healthcare delivery systems.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new set of strategic appointments aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health and biomedical sectors, naming Namdas as the Director-General of the BCDA and appointing Obahiagbon and Umeoji as Executive Directors of the NDPHC.
The appointments, which take effect immediately, are part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition key health agencies, improve healthcare delivery, and drive innovation in Nigeria’s biomedical and public health infrastructure.
As the newly appointed Director-General of the BCDA, Namdas will oversee the agency’s mandate to advance biomedical research, regulate health technologies, and foster innovation in medical devices and diagnostic solutions across the country.
Meanwhile, Obahiagbon and Umeoji will assume their roles as Executive Directors of the NDPHC, where they will be responsible for driving policy implementation, strengthening primary and public healthcare systems, and improving access to essential health services nationwide.
The Presidency noted that the appointments reflect the government’s commitment to placing competent professionals in critical health sector roles to accelerate reforms, enhance service delivery, and align Nigeria’s health architecture with global best practices.
Health sector stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing the appointments as a positive step towards addressing systemic gaps in healthcare management, biomedical innovation, and public health coordination.
Experts emphasised that strengthening the leadership of agencies like the BCDA and NDPHC is crucial for improving disease surveillance, expanding healthcare access in underserved communities, and building a more resilient health system capable of responding to emerging public health challenges.
The appointees are expected to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, state health ministries, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to drive measurable improvements in healthcare outcomes.
As is standard for such appointments, the nominees will undergo the necessary confirmation processes where applicable, after which they will formally assume full operational responsibilities.
The development underscores the Tinubu administration’s focus on institutional capacity building and strategic human resource deployment as key drivers of national development and public welfare.
