Talent Executive Lakunle Compares Star Management to Marriage Whilst Highlighting Social Media Obstacles
Olakunle Adediwura Oni says managing celebrities is like marriage, noting that disagreements are normal but must be resolved quickly for business to continue. With over a decade managing talents like Femi Adebayo, Ruth Kadiri, and Ronke Odusanya, he highlighted social media pressure on Nollywood careers and paid tribute to Alexx Ekubo.
Prominent Nigerian entertainment executive, Olakunle Adediwura Oni, widely known as Lakunle, has shared his perspectives on the realities of celebrity representation, asserting that managing high-profile figures carries the same emotional weight as a marriage.
Drawing on over a decade of industry experience representing notable figures such as Femi Adebayo, Ruth Kadiri, and Ronke Odusanya, Lakunle explained that disagreements are entirely natural within professional bonds. He noted that whilst disputes do arise, both parties must find swift resolutions because the demanding nature of the entertainment business means that operations cannot grind to a halt over personal grievances.
In a conversation with Legit.ng, the veteran manager pointed out that a primary challenge in the modern era is navigating the immense pressure generated by social media. He observed that false narratives and internet vitriol often inflict emotional distress on actors and can jeopardize lucrative corporate endorsements, adding that managers frequently have to restrain themselves from responding to every piece of online speculation to avoid amplifying the issue.
Lakunle emphasized that a dedicated management structure is essential for long-term career survival, particularly within Nollywood, where actors tend to enjoy longer tenures compared to musical artists. He concluded by reflecting on the importance of professional teams to help artists build sustainable structures, whilst also paying a brief tribute to the late actor Alexx Ekubo, whom he remembered as a remarkably peaceful and scandal-free individual within the creative community.
